Last-Minute Adventure Ideas Before Summer Slips Away

We hate to say it… but those long, golden evenings? They're numbered.

The good news? You've still got a few weekends left to soak it in, Saskatoon style. Whatever you’re craving, river stillness, backroad rollouts, or one last starry night in a tent–we’ve got ideas (and gear) to make it happen. Here are five local adventures you can pull off this weekend,; no flights, no fuss, just good gear and better vibes.

1. Paddleboard Day Trip: Poplar Bluffs to Rotary Park

What you’ll need: SUP + paddle, PFD, drybag, snacks This mellow stretch of the South Saskatchewan is a late-summer gem. Launch at Poplar Bluffs and float into the city with wide skies, cottonwoods, and a chill current to carry you along. Takeout at Rotary Park (just after the Idylwild Freeway bridge, to the right). Pro tip: Catch it at golden hour. Bring a wind shell and a headlamp just in case.

2. Pike Lake Campout + Paddle Loops

Skill level: Anyone with a weekend bag
Time: 1 night + day paddling
What you’ll need: Tent, stove, board or kayak, bug spray, coffee setup Only 30 minutes from town, Pike Lake makes a perfect quick escape. Campsites fill fast, but you can often luck into cancellations late in the season. Paddle loops around the lake, roast something ridiculous over the fire, and be back by brunch.
